At PACTcon this year, we’re offering several new ways to connect and interact with your peers and colleagues outside of formal conference sessions. These activities are all optional, but we hope that you find something that sounds appealing and draws you in.
PACTcon Free Little Library
You’ve seen them in your neighbourhood and on your travels – now you can join in at PACTcon. Free Little Libraries are community mini-libraries in which you can share a book and take a book. Bring a favourite book to share with your colleagues and pick up something new. It might be a playscript, a book that has helped you in your career, or something completely unrelated to theatre that inspires you or helps you recharge. For an extra special treat, leave a little note in the book letting your colleagues know why you left this read to share.
The person across from you in a session came up with an amazing idea. The new conference attendee just articulated how you had been feeling for years about succession planning. Your new conference buddy just told a hilarious story at the bar. Tell them they rock! It’s free – it’s easy – and it could help make someone’s day!
In each conference package you will find a couple of “You rock!” notes to use during the conference. Write down who rocks and why and post the note so everyone can appreciate it on the rocking message board provided. Or just pass it along to the person who rocks. We hope these notes will follow participants back home so they have them on days when they need to remember how awesome they are.
Walk and Talk
Get a little fresh air, see the beauty of Ottawa and talk with your peers on a morning walk that will take a scenic route from the hotel to the conference at the start of the day. Please look for Vicki Stroich in the Novotel lobby. She’ll be leading the walk and watching the time for you. Journeys end at the NAC prior to each day’s session start. Each walk is different so feel free to join every day.
Yoga on Parliament Hill
Join Lululemon for a free yoga session on the lawn in front of Parliament Hill. Bring your own mat and water!
The session starts at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 9 (weather permitting).
National Gallery Tour
Get a new perspective and join colleagues on a guided tour of the highlights of National Gallery of Canada. Please sign up at the registration desk for one of the two tours on Saturday, May 12.
This 60-minute guided tour costs $19 per person and allows for admission after the tour to explore the gallery on your own or with your new conference friends!
